Here's a picture from Alex Williams' new book, Atlantic Surfers, which I mentioned yesterday. It's of Steve Daniel, a man I would have liked to have met when I was researching Surf Nation. A nice, quintessentially British shot, you'll agree, and one that makes you want to check out the rest of the book. But where, knowledgeable surf friends, was it taken?

Bantham

Noel, thats a tad mono-sylabic

If its a pic by Alex and the surfer is Steve Daniels then Noel is right - it can only be Bantham!

Slightly less mono syllabic, I just want to say I did not cheat because if you preview Alex's book on line it does indeed confirm that I was correct on the location. But I think, but am prepared to be corrected, that the shot also appeared in the Plymouth Argus.
Finally what happened to Steve Daniel?
He had a shop in the Barbican @ Plymouth then at Wembury but where is he now?

It is mightily convenient, if you deprive your citizens of political liberties, to portray these as a bourgeois luxury.
