Progress!
Yesterday I attended the brilliantly named "Interesting Cases" clinic at Royal Cornwall Hospital. There I met an excellent doctor - in fact, I met several doctors. A biopsy of my mysterious rash was taken and I was the centre of much medical scrutiny. Where it's all leading I have no idea, but I can say that I no longer feel as if I've been banging my head against a brick wall.
Talking of walls, and bricks, I've discovered that manual labour is a step too far. Yes, three months' recuperation from spinal surgery is not (I have found) quite long enough for my body to be ready for smashing up rocks and lifting slabs of stone. I feel, to put it mildly, absolutely knackered and, with the return of the dread electric shocks (thank God for my Gabapentin stash), ever so slightly worried that I might have been a bit stupid.
But things are on the up. I've had the biopsy. I will have another scar, this time on my jawline, but at least, in a few weeks, there will be conclusive proof that I've got Lyme disease. Or not... Meanwhile, my neck hurts but that's because I've pushed things too much, too soon. No more labouring for a week or so, but - touch wood - I'm on an upward curve. Who knows, at this rate I might even be surfing again in a few months...

Manual labour- are you nuts!

Checking back in to see what's up in your life. A couple of entries ago you said you were going to do something different for the lyme. Is this still the case? So glad you were able to have the biopsy done. I pray it will come back positive. Either way, you really need to pursue treatment as soon as possible. The longer you let it 'run amok' in your body, the longer it will take to heal. The neurotoxins it and co-infections produce are super-heavy duty. I know you know, by this point, what needs to be done. I hope and pray you have already begun the task. You deserve the best life has to offer and so does your family! Be well, Alex. =)

Hi Alex, tell me to bu99er off if you like, but I thought a skin biopsy could only give an (almost) definitive answer on Lyme if it was taken early. Considering what I've read about how well the spirochaetes hide in your body, I worry that if you get a negative you will think you haven't got Lyme....
